Royal Palm Beach High School Principal, Dr. Jesús Armas, has been named as the School District of Palm Beach County Adult Education Principal of the Year.  At its annual Adult and Community Education Luncheon on December 7, 2018, Dr. Armas was presented with the Award for Excellence by the School District of Palm Beach County and the Palm Beach County Assistant Principals.

In his 13th year as a principal, Dr. Armas is currently the principal of Royal Palm Beach High School, a position he has held for the last nine years.  In that time, Dr. Armas has overseen the school’s adult and community education program, working first with Assistant Principal for Community School Deborah Nash and for the last six years with Mrs. Alexandra Vetter who currently heads the night school.  Royal Palm Beach High School’s Adult Education ESOL program began during Dr. Armas’ tenure at the school.

Dr. Armas has a long history with Adult and Community Education beginning in Polk County where Dr. Armas taught science credit recovery courses.  Here in Palm Beach County, Dr. Armas worked closely with adult school programs at Suncoast High School and Jupiter High school in his role as Activities and Athletic Director.  As an Assistant Principal, Dr. Armas was instrumental in the inception of the night school program at Seminole Ridge High School.

At Jupiter High School, Dr. Armas was an ESOL instructor in the evenings teaching English to adults whose native language was not English.  “Nowhere in education do we see learning for learning’s sake, like we do in our night ESOL classes,” Dr. Armas says, adding, “In my 32 years in education I haven’t had a more rewarding experience than teaching ESOL classes.”  About Dr. Armas, Assistant Principal Alexandra Vetter says, “Dr. Armas is a true supporter of Adult and Community Education.  He is a leader who believes in quality educational programs at all levels.  He inspires our teachers and our students to strive to be their best and to achieve their goals.”

Speaking about Royal Palm Beach High School’s Adult Education program, Dr. Armas, says “Our night school program helps to further our vision of excellence.  Whether it’s GED classes for adults looking to earn a high school diploma, ESOL classes for adults looking to learn how to speak English, or Yoga classes for our community members, our night school program has helped make Royal Palm Beach High School a part of the fabric of this community.”
